EVM2003 is an all-volunteer open source voting software project involving engineers, scientists, political scientists and attorneys from around the U.S. and the World.

The purpose of the project is to produce a demonstration version of our open source voting software. The Open Voting Consortium will be the custodian of the free software -- both the demo software and the production software that will be developed and certified for use in public elections.

Jan Karrman, a senior research engineer at Uppsala University in Sweden, is one of our most active developers:

Jan has substantially completed the software that produces the printed ballot. This includes a barcode representation of the completed ballot. The barcode is located so that when the ballot is placed in a privacy folder, the barcode is exposed while the rest is covered. This makes it possible for a voter to have the barcode scanned and hear the selections through headphones without revealing the contents of the ballot to anyone else.

To try the ballot software, click here. You can also download the software to take the encoded ballot information and read back the contents.
